Largoet Fortress at Elven is somewhere we have called into a couple of times in years gone by, one time when Daisy was with us, but both times found it closed.

I have been determined to one day see what it was all about behind the tall wooden gates with the distinctive and very charming stone rabbits adorning the gate house.

This trip it just so worked out to finally get there, and using our roaming Internet to check on opening times and tariff, we achieved a visit, paid for our ticket at the gatehouse, and walked the very pleasant 10 minutes along a leafy shaded track (most welcome in the heat!) to the superb, privately owned castle ruin.

I’m glad to have finally got to see it!
