That night, it was harder to sleep in the heat, and still buzzing from a great visit to this amazing city, but ultimately we did, and it really was an ideal overnight spot.
After some interesting routing from SatNav lady, we finally made it out of the city, and despite a couple of other dubious faux pas, which saw the photographer’s stress levels rise momentarily, we finally squeezed our way through some literally tight spots and made it to Viana do Castelo, which meant we’d completed a major objective of our trip. Combined with last year’s trip, we had now driven the entire Western/Atlantic coast of Spain and Portugal. This had taken us from Tarifa at the very South of Spain, overlooking Africa’s Atlas Mountains, all the way round Portugal, and ultimately to where Spain meets France at Hondarribia/Hendaye.
The challenge now would be finding an interesting route back home. In order to put that decision off, this afternoon we headed inland to Ponte de Lima, where we’d had a successful stop last year. We’ll think about what comes next, tomorrow morning.
