Another great night, this time next to the cliffs. In the morning we went down to the beach to inspect the typical Algarve rock formations from below, then took a stroll along the top to check out the other little bays.
After coffee, our objective was Carveiro, a town we’d stayed near with the girls in 2001. We had a pleasant walk there to reminisce and by searching our old emails even managed to find the place we’d stayed back then, a couple of kilometres out of town. After taking the obligatory selfies to Snapchat the girls, we left and aimed for Silves, to see some inland and authentic Algarve, for a change.
Great parking in Silves. A huge free carpark, with a few other motorhomes there too. After a chat with the lady at the Tourist office we headed up towards the castle, where we paid to walk around the ramparts. After that we meandered down through some of the old streets.
We’d considered overnighting in the pleasant car park, but I’d seen a Park4night next to reservoir, or barragem as they’re called in these parts, and this was only about a 15 minute drive NE of Silves. I wasn’t sure what to expect, and probably unnerved Sophie as I pushed on up some steep and narrow roads for the last few hundred metres. However, the reward was amazing as we now sit overlooking the beautiful Barragem Do Arade with wooded islands and surrounding hills.
