Drive through Compeigne
Drive from Beauvais to Chateau Gaillard
We drove through the town of Les Andelys to reach Chateau Gaillard, but didn’t have time to stop and visit as we didn’t want to miss the castle being open! (hence only the piccie of market day – or what was left of it!).
After the great hike up to the old castle in a lot of rain (which actually felt quite an achievement!), we made our descent down into the pretty village of ‘Les Petites Andelys’ below, by the river (the Seine, I think!)
Even on a wet and grey day it was a pretty town, or village, (I forget what defines a village from a town!). It was easy to imagine how extra lovely it would be, in all its medieval charm, set below that old majestic castle, and riverside, in glorious sunshine!
