Faro to Quinta do Lago (Praia do Ancão)

Although only 5k West of our previous night’s stop, as the crow flys, Praia do Ancão was in reality at least a 25k journey. Even with the best of intentions, you’re always ultimately at the mercy of the SatNav lady, and the inevitable very narrow lanes you don’t see coming. We normally survive these momentary trips down inappropriate roads, that often seem to go on forever. We did succeed in getting through this episode, but unlike our normal experience of meeting very few, or often, no other vehicles, this time it was if we’d hit a mass exodus from one of the local villages, as we met a constant stream of cars.

Anyway, we made it through unscathed, with Sophie saying each time we’d managed to pass another car that they must think we’re idiots coming down this road. By “we”, she was really meaning me.

Fortunately we made it to some sensible roads again into an area full of very smart golfing complexes. We ultimately made it down to the beach this idiot was aiming for and the place was deserted. Now this Park4night spot (3.5 tonne limit) comes highly rated, with advice that it is mobbed in the Summer, so I expected at least a few neighbours, but it wasn’t to be and so we had the luxury of this super hard-standing carpark to ourselves, and between the showers, had the pounding Atlantic waves to lull us to sleep.

*** Just to mention that our blogs can be up to a few weeks behind reality, as we’re always in catch-up mode ***
